USS PRICHETT REUNION MATES WEIGH ANCHOR IN NKY

Fort Mitchell, KY/August 27, 2008—About 60 veterans from World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars will travel from around the country to attend the annual meeting of the USS Prichett DD561 Reunion Association, September 9-14 at the Drawbridge Inn.

The Prichett was commissioned in January, 1944 and served throughout World War II in the Pacific. The ship was damaged twice by kamikaze attacks, once while stopped rescuing the crew of another ship, which was also hit by a kamikaze.

The Prichett received eight battle stars in the War as well as the Navy Unit Commendation. It earned many more awards in Korea and Vietnam. She was decommissioned in 1970 and sold to Italy where the ship was scrapped a short time later.

While in town, the veterans and their families will take a lunch cruise aboard BB Riverboats and will also visit Hofbraùhaus Newport , the Aquarium and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The mission of the Northern Kentucky Convention and Visitors Bureau is that of an aggressive sales, marketing, service and informational organization whose primary responsibility is to positively impact the Northern Kentucky economy through conventions, meetings and visitor expenditures. The direct economic impact of visitors’ spending in Campbell, Kenton and Boone Counties in 2007 was $325 million.
